We’re incredibly proud to welcome three exceptional individuals to begin their summer internship with Asymmetry Group today. Jessica Erdmann, Judy Li, and Allison Tong will be spending the next 10 weeks working on a combination of projects from innovative clients and internal firm initiatives including the build-out of business plans for some new areas of interest for Asymmetry.

As a small, boutique firm, and against a backdrop of challenging economic times driven by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, we made a decision to honor our commitment to these summer internships. Like most small businesses, we have been faced with challenges over the past few months. However, we also acknowledge that we are in the privileged position of serving innovative life science clients, most of whom have been able to forge ahead with their business during the pandemic. As a result, it was important to us to forego the recent government stimulus offerings through the CARES act, and to keep our commitments to the talented individuals to whom we had promised internships. Of course, we couldn’t do this without our incredible clients, and for this, we thank you.

That said, it is against another troubling backdrop that our interns begin their journey with us today. Racism continues to be endemic in our country, and we are profoundly disturbed by the recent events that have unfolded over the past weeks – the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery to name just a few. Asymmetry believes Black Lives Matter, and that we can and must do better as a society. Today, Asymmetry commits to several actions:

  • We will only work with organizations that similarly believe Black lives matter and who are more broadly committed to supporting diversity and inclusion;
  • We are making a donation to the Black Lives Matter organization. Should you feel inspired to do the same, you can find the site here: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ms_blm_homepage_2019;
  • We will ensure that our company practices and actions are consistent with creating opportunities for a diverse set of individuals.

Today, we welcome Jessica, Judy and Allison to the Asymmetry team with full awareness that they are beginning their internship with us during unprecedented times. Together, we look forward to a positive experience over the next 10 weeks, not just through their internship, but collectively as we do our part to make this world a better place.
